Client: Effe
Yoku SH is a modular Sauna + Hammam system designed by Marco Williams Fagioli (Zup Design) for Effe. Its name is inspired by a particular branch of Japanese natural medicine called "Shinrin-Yoku," which literally means "Forest Bathing." This practice is based on the principle that deep immersion in nature has remarkable health benefits.
The distinctive element of the Yoku system is the large recessed glass panels on the front façade and the vertical architectural elements made of natural wood, suggesting immersion in a forest of trees, creating an elegant sense of intimacy during the heat bath. The design of Yoku is essential and balanced, with an integrated stove in the bench that ensures a great formal linearity inside. Despite this design rigor, the three types of wood used, including thermally treated wood, make the sauna a welcoming, warm, and customizable environment. The front façade can feature vertical rhythms from a bookshelf, a wooden door, or simply large transparent glass panels.
This version is Yoku S, which includes only the sauna.
