The Perugia Minimetrò is an urban transport system consisting of a single line. It connects the historic centre of Perugia to a large car park in its outskirts. Each of the seven Minimetrò stations was designed by architecture firm Atelier Jean Nouvel (Paris). Zup developed the visual identity and wayfinding/signage of the project which involved the design of an original graphic system to identify each of the stations, including maps of the underground line; directional signage and its positioning, materials and size; the development of a system of safety icons (mandatory exit maps, safety requirements and restrictions), as well as information on how to connect to other stations. Particular attention was paid to the architectural aspects of the structures in the conceptualization of the graphic system. No new elements were introduced, exploiting the existing volumes to their fullest, with total respect of the formal purity of the architecture. European Design Award (‘09)
